Their teeth are very precise \u0026amp; are angled towards the handle; this allows you to cut with great efficiency \u0026amp; control, resulting in precise straight cuts. Another benefit with cutting on the pull-stroke is that you are able to follow your cutting line, giving you accurate \u0026amp; smoother cuts. The blades on Japanese saws are generally constructed of a thinner steel which produces a finer kerf (space left by the blade). Another major benefit by cutting on the pull-stroke is that less force \u0026amp; effort is required when sawing, leaving you not as fatigued when working. Western saws (push saws) on the other hand, typically have teeth that cut on the push stroke. By cutting on a push stroke, the wood will splinter \u0026amp; chip away from you (which is desired in certain circumstances).
