The narrow blade enables the saw to reach into tight awkward places where ordinary saws cannot get to. It's also great for cutting curves in wood, or if you need to create a tight circle radius cut. Their teeth are very precise \u0026amp; are angled towards the handle; this allows you to cut with great efficiency \u0026amp; control, resulting in precise straight cuts. Another benefit with cutting on the pull-stroke is that you are able to follow your cutting line, giving you accurate \u0026amp; smoother cuts. The blades on Japanese saws are generally constructed of a thinner steel which produces a finer kerf (space left by the blade). Another major benefit by cutting on the pull-stroke is that less force \u0026amp; effort is required when sawing, leaving you not as fatigued when working. Western saws (push saws) on the other hand, typically have teeth that cut on the push stroke. By cutting on a push stroke, the wood will splinter \u0026amp; chip away from you (which is desired in certain circumstances). Western saws typically have thicker blades to keep from bending out when pushing through the cut; they also generally create a larger kerf than Japanese saws. Many Japanese Saws also have blades that disassemble from the handle, making storage easy for a small bag or toolbox.
